So sorry, I think the new leaflet is ready, it keeps getting forgotten with everything else going on. Will try to remember to chase Jo.

Thanks Becky, ‘sacred’ is one of the words we thought might be controversial!

And that’s great Margaret, yes great ideas!we can have everything I think, there’s no limit to our objects. As long as we keep it reasonably vague regarding how we carry them out so we don’t box ourselves in…

I think it’s Jane who is dealing with bookings Linda – her email address should be in the Event in the contact details bit? Or I’m sure it’s fine to let Irene know as she’s also helping organise. Woopie for our first participant! :yahoo:

    Dear All

Hilary and I have spoken on the phone and clarified the situation re the constitution with Katherine.

The constitution does need to be changed, and in fact the charity needs to be set up again as a new structure (an Association Charitable Incorporated Organisation or CIO) and the old Association dissolved if we want to be able to make payments to Trustees. Another big advantage of the new structure is that it provides protection for Trustees. At the moment the SG members (Trustees) have no protection if the charity was to go bust – the Trustees would be personally liable for any debts. Not that this is very likely in the capable hands of Linda!

These structural and constitutional changes can only be made at a Special General Meeting so unfortunately it can’t be done by January. I suggest that an extraordinary meeting is called rather than trying to squeeze it into Wigan somehow! When should we call the SGM do you think? Maybe after Wigan – April or May?

Re the issue of payments to SG members which isn’t allowed under our current constitution, what we decided at the AGM is that in order that they may carry on receiving remuneration Katherine and Lisa-Marie will not be formally on the SG until after we have made the necessary changes. In practise this makes little difference but Katherine and Lisa-Marie now can’t vote at SG meetings until we have made the changes.

I’m sorry, I forgot to make this change on the website but will do so now so it makes it clear Katherine and Lisa-Marie aren’t currently on the SG. Also this needs to be changed in MM.

I’ll create an event on the website and share it on social media. Katherine what are the details please. Sorry if you’ve posted them already and I’ve missed them. Are we still calling it ‘save the midwife’ or have we moved on from that?

I particularly like Deb’s writing style. Thanks for the feedback, perhaps I can tweak a little and run it past Deb. I’m frankly scared of Titcombe as he’s so influential with JH but so misguided in his rage and grief. Anyway I will have a think – my main worry was about alienating the RCM when we’re trying to engage them but I’m probably being too much of a wuss.

I agree Ishbel. I think maybe we need to make sure the meeting venue is near enough to where members live so that we can have food and accommodation with local members in future. But in the meantime shall we make the most of it and have a meal too? Maybe some of us can self-fund or at least partly self-fund?

OK thanks Katherine, that’s a bit of a relief to be honest as the date’s getting so close. Who wants to stay at the Riverhill? And shall we have the SG meeting there plus an evening meal on Friday, or continue with the plan to have the SG meeting at the Venue arranged by Bev, in which case I think we’ll have to have our evening meal at a restaurant nearby unless Bev has other plans?

Katherine – it seems that quite a few people can’t make the whole weekend and wouldn’t be able to attend on Sunday for a campaign meeting. Have you sounded out the non-SG members about that Sunday as a possibility?

Ah thank you, we didn’t realise that you lived close enough to drive and could offer bed spaces – that could change everything

Try it on your phone now Donna. I think it might be my fault, I only added you and Catherine tonight as I left you off by accident, sorry.

That’s so weird Donna, I am sure it was fully booked when I checked before! Do you prefer the Premier Inn to the Riverhill that I booked provisionally (see the previous post)? http://www.theriverhill.co.uk/about/ I think the restaurant looks great here …

The house is only an idea if we want to have the campaign meeting on the Sunday – I think we’ll be better off in a hotel near to the venue if we’re only staying for the Friday night.

I don’t think Katherine has arranged the meeting yet … so it’s all a moot point and quite complicated to make decisions just using the forum and emails! I need to speak to Bev really.

I know the venue is a bit of a drive … I couldn’t find a cheap house nearer but there may be one! There where quite a few large houses nearer but a lot of them have mainly double beds, or bizarrely only one bathroom shared amongst 10 or 12 …

The hotel is nearer and looks absolutely beautiful so if we’re not having the campaign meeting and just having the SG and Winter meeting I would probably vote for the hotel. If we’re having the campaign meeting then the house makes sense I think?

As Bev is organising the Winter meeting what does you think Bev? And as Katherine is organising the campaign meeting you have the final say about that Katherine!

What about this place for Steering group meeting and accommodation on Friday evening and accommodation Friday night, it’s about 45 minutes drive to the national meeting venue for Saturday. Then we return on Saturday night for more shenanigans, and hold the campaign meeting there on Sunday (if the owner is happy for us to hang on to the house for the day). It’s really cheap.

Apologies if this is the a repeat of another post, I thought I’d replied but can’t see my post. I have reserved these 5 rooms but unfortunately in real life they are three twins and two doubles – they can be cancelled with no payment (I think up to 48 hours prior to the arrival)

I was wondering if we should have the SG meeting at the hotel – the proprietor has said we can use the residents lounge though it wouldn’t be private … I was thinking we could have our evening meal at the hotel – maybe even Christmas dinner???!!!

It’s a shame they don’t have a meeting room as we could stay two nights and have the campaign meeting there on Sunday too (we could try to find a church hall or something nearby for the campaign meeting?) … alternatively we could scrap the hotel idea and look for a large house for the weekend near to the Winter meeting venue for accommodation and also as a venue for the campaign meeting on Sunday??

Can we confirm that we are starting at 6pm sharp for the SG meeting? It’s quite early but on the other hand, we really can’t repeat what happened last time when the SG meeting was so late that we finished at midnight …
