I like your topic, and you’re quite right about the way “Midwifery” seems to focus on the birth. As midwives, we learn about pregnancy as a long term condition, and all the changes which take place within the woman’s body, as well as the development of the child from conception to birth and a few weeks afterwards. In other words, ‘midwifery’ is about approximately 9 months of a woman’s life.
It’s a topic which could gain from wider discussion, both public and professional. One of our information leaflets is called “What is a Midwife”, (recently incorporated with other info into a general ARM information booklet).
