A group of six of us are revisiting the NMC on October 9th to hear how they are improving communication with the public. We are Debbie Chippington-Derrick; (AIMS) Paula Cleary Birthplace Matters; Margaret Jowitt (Physiologist and campaigner on maternity matters); Katherine Hales Midwife (ARM National Coordinator) and Deb Hughes Midwife and Academic (ARM).Ruth Weston Campaigner. We will decide on our next meeting later in the Autumn after we have met with NMC.
Yes we recorded it this time and we will have a transcript as soon as possible. Ruth Weston has the recording. We met before the meeting for a couple of hours and were joined by Elizabeth Duff (NCT) though she did not come to the NMC meeting. How are NMC improving their engagement with the public?
Where do women and midwives go for support in making care choices outside guidelines after the demise of supervision.
Do NMC have checks and balances against malicious referral to Ftp?
Accountability for decisions made by NMC (eg. IM insurance decision).
We did not see Jackie Smith who is on sick leave but their new person in charge of educational standards and policy (nursing) Geraldine Walters She seemed very frank and fair but hasn’t worked long for NMC and did quite well considering she didn’t know midwifery. It was an exhausting day and I am just about recovering now – fairly useful I think.
